Using Genymotion With Android Studio

Just read a great tutorial on using Genymotion with Android Studio. I won’t bother re-printing it all.

  • First, install VirtualBox
  • Next, install Genymotion (must create an account) and install it
  • Next, in Android Studio:
    • Android Studio -> Preferences -> Plugins -> Browse Repositories -> Genymotion
    • Restart Android Studio
  • Next, run Genymotion and create a new Virtual Device
    • You will be prompted to install Android AVD’s, install whatever you need
    • Click “Play” to start your installed AVD
    • You will get a dialog asking for an Android SDK directory
    • By default, I was able to use: “/Applications/Android Studio.app/sdk”
    • Once you have set that, click “Play” to start again
  • Once your Genymotion emulator starts, click “Run” in Android Studio
  • Your Genymotion emulator should appear in the list of available devices to run on
